SAFETY AT PROTESTS
INCO places a high value on the safety of our citizens and those who participate in protests, rallies and other events that we sponsor. We have a safety team
on hand at every event whose members are trained in recognizing potential hot spots and de-escalation techniques. They are recognizable by their neon vests and
carry walkie talkies. Contact us if you would like to help out in this way.
Here’s a simple bullet-point list of effective ways to de-escalate tension at a protest:
Stay calm and grounded – Regulate your own emotions before engaging.
Use a calm, respectful tone – Speak slowly and clearly to reduce agitation.
Consider walking away- and encouraging others to do the same
Listen actively – Show empathy and validate feelings without judgment.
Avoid physical contact – Maintain personal space unless necessary for safety.
Position yourself non-threateningly – Open posture, hands visible, no sudden movements.
Focus on shared goals – Remind others of the protest’s purpose and values.
Use creative energy – Music, chants, or humor can shift the mood positively.
Call in support – Look for INCO Safety Team members in neon vests.
Encourage breathing and grounding – Help others reconnect with their bodies and surroundings.

A Workbook for Action Peacekeepers or Event Marshals
This guidebook offers practical tools and principles for peacekeepers, rooted in the belief that nonviolent discipline is not just a tactic — it’s a strategy for resilience. By projecting calm, modeling solidarity, and preparing for the unexpected, peacekeepers help movements withstand pressure without fracturing. If fear is the goal, then solidarity is the antidote.

on tyranny
The Founding Fathers tried to protect us from the threat they knew, the tyranny that overcame ancient democracy. Today, our political order faces new threats, not unlike the totalitarianism of the twentieth century. We are no wiser than the Europeans who saw democracy yield to fascism, Nazism, or communism. Our one advantage is that we might learn from their experience.
On Tyranny is a call to arms and a guide to resistance, with invaluable ideas for how we can preserve our freedoms in the uncertain years to come.
